Item Competitivitatea comerțului agroalimentar a Republicii Moldova: perspective globale și regionale(INCE, ASEM, 2024) Cimpoies, Liliana; Lucasenco, Eugenia; Cojocaru, AdrianThe paper analyzes the competitiveness of the agri-food trade of the Republic of Moldova, considering global and regional perspectives, with a particular focus on trade relations with the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The study evaluates the performance of Moldova's agrifood sector using indicators such as the trade coverage ratio and the Lafay index to determine Moldova's comparative advantages in this sector. The research results show that the Republic of Moldova has recorded significant growth in agri-food exports, especially to the European market, while exports to the CIS have declined. Moldova demonstrates considerable competitive advantages in the cereals, oilseeds, alcoholic beverages, and vinegar sectors, but faces disadvantages in the animal products, dairy, and fish sectors. These findings highlight the need for strategic interventions to strengthen the competitiveness of these sectors and to support the sustainable development of Moldova's agri-food sector.Item Development of the agri-food sector in the Republic of Moldova(INCE, 2015) Stratan, Alexandru; Moroz, Victor; Ignat, Anatolie; Lucasenco, EugeniaThe agri-food sector of the Republic of Moldova has undergone significant changes in the past decades. In the context of Moldova's European aspirations, the modernization of the agri-food sector must comply with European patterns and trends that will allow the agri-food industry to adapt to the requirements of international markets, especially in terms of safety and quality of food. The trade policy pursued by the Republic of Moldova at the current stage is focused on geographical diversification of the agri-food exports, primarily to reduce the risks caused by widespread non-tariff measures to protect domestic markets. The main drivers of the integration processes are private business operators and traders. However, the efficiency of the newly emerged food value chains is still low. This investigation was done in the framework of the FP7 project “AGRICISTRADE” using the official statistical data, qualitative and quantitative studies and other relevant publications. In this paper the importance and the most recent changes of the agti-food sector of the Republic of Moldova were demonstrated, the main impediments were analyzed and proposals to foster the agri-food sector development were provided.Item Development of sour cherry production in the Republic of Moldova(INCE, 2023) Ceban, Alexandru; Lucasenco, EugeniaSour cherries represent one of the most important Moldovan fruits grown in the Republic of Moldova, with a great potential for modernization and further development of production. There is noticed a slow grow in terms of surface, as well as production and averge yield per hectare for sour cherries. At the same time, exports account for about 19% of the total production. Compared to world exports, sour cherry production in the Republic of Moldova possesses a very high Revealed Comparative Advantage index. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to carry out an analysis of sour cherry production in the Republic of Moldova, to analyze the current situation, development trends as well as the degree of international competitiveness for the given product with respect to the world trade. Thus, the research methods selected and used for the given article refer to the analytical, descriptive, comparative method, as well as through the Revealed Comparative Advantage indicator. Although the demand for sour cherries is increasingm, there are some existing issues in the field that need to be addressed in order to have a successful horticultural business. At the same time, the paper presents a specific argumentation for the existence of a development potential of this sub-sector in order to persuade farmers to get engaged in this specific activity.
