Abstract: Labour productivity in agriculture has certain specific features determined by the particularities of the agricultural production and labour characterizing this sector. The study focused on analysing the regional disparities in labour productivity within 127 farms specialized in crop production. The farms were selected from a sample of 400 farms that were surveyed in 2007, questionnaire based interview, in the frame of two projects coordinated by the Institute of Agricultural Economics. The methodology is based on the calculation of partial productivity, which expresses the efficiency of the utilization of each factor of production within the surveyed farms. In the frame of this composite indicator, labour productivity was calculated as a ratio of gross value added (expressed as the difference between the value of agricultural output in current prices and intermediate consumption) and labour engaged in farm work, expressed in annual working units. Database was sorted and filtered by various criteria: development region, economic size, legal status of the farms, age and level of training of the farm managers, etc. The study results confirmed the working assumptions with regard to regional disparities in labour productivity, determined by the type of farm management and technical equipment, excess of labour force on the family farm, but mostly by the negative climatic factors which manifested in the North-East, South-East and South regions.
