Reconstruction of the continuity of cause-specific mortality trends for the Republic of Moldova

Abstract

The paper presents the stages of reconstruction of the continuity of cause-of-death time series for Moldova based on a special method developed by French demographers Jacques Vallin and France Mesle (Institut national d’etudes demographiques, INED). The method eliminates the disruptions in death time series provoked by periodic changes in the classification and was successfully used in a number of industrialized countries. For the Republic of Moldova we reconstructed death time series by sex and age according to the short list of the 10th Revision of the International Classification of diseases and Causes of Death for the 1965-2012 period.

În articol sunt prezentate particularităţile de ajustare a metodei de reconstituire a seriilor mortalităţii pe cauze de deces (elaborate de către demografii francezi Jacques Vallin and France Mesle, Institut national d’etudes demographiques, INED) la datele pentru Republica Moldova. Această metodă asigură continuitatea seriilor de timp ale deceselor pe cauze întreruptă de schimbările periodice ale clasificării şi a fost aplicată cu succes de către un şir de tări dezvoltate. În urma studiului, au fost reconstituite seriile de timp ale deceselor pentru Republica Moldova pe sexe şi vârste conform listei scurte a Reviziei a X-ea a Clasificării Internaţionale a Maladiilor şi a Cauzelor de Deces pentru perioada 1965-2012.

В работе представлены этапы восстановления непрерывности временных рядов чисел смертей для Республики Молдова на основе метода, разработанном французскими демографами Франс Меле и Жак Валлен (Национальный институт демографических исследований, ИНЕД). Данный метод устраняет разрывы временных рядов чисел смертей, вызванные периодическими пересмотрами классификаций причин смерти, и с успехом был адаптирован для ряда стран. Для Республики Молдова получены однородные временные ряды чисел умерших по полу и возрасту согласно краткому перечню 10-го пересмотра Международной классификации заболеваний и причин смерти за 1965-2012 годы.
