Trying to regulate prices administratively could have counter-productive effects: on the one hand over-regulation will not allow removal of the causes influencing price increases (including unjustified), on the other hand it would create risks for privat einitiative. Empirical studies indicate that among the factors that determine the high level of prices inMoldova we could point out the economic distortions (the existence of economic sectors in which an- ti-competitive practices apply, inefficient functioningof many public enterprises); intentional inclusion ofunjustified price structure components; practicing schemes, which go beyond the legal field, or whomay beclassified as fraudulent, but for which there are no sanctions in the national legislation.en_EN
